New Group and KAL on Ravelry.

I've started a New Group " OllieandMayKnitsBoxofSocksKAL2017.
This KAL will start on Christmas Eve with the first cast on, all is required is that you have a Box of Socks by Christmas Eve 2017.
The idea is too knit a pair of Socks of your choice each month, put them into a Pretty Box and this time next year you will have a Year's worth of Socks, they can be for all the people in your life that you knit socks for, they don't necessarily have too be just for yourself.
This is my new logo for the group...
It's really hard too get the logo's too fit in the small space that Ravelry gives you, it is a bit stretched on the Groups page but you will still find it, best too join up.
There will also be a hashtag on Instagram..#ollieandmayknitsboxofsockskal2017
I'll be casting on on Christmas Eve with Dani from the Little Bobbins Podcast where the cast on all began about 4yrs ago...I'm planning on using my first hand dyed yarn that I processed last weekend, I'm so happy with how it turned out, that's it behind my logo, I also made a second skein and added Coffee Essense just too see how it would take, it's a bit more murky but  I have started knitting socks with it and it's turning out really lovely, I only had a 50gram ball so I've added a different yarn for the heel and toes..
Spearment Leaves. my first hand dyed yarn. 4ply machine washable.100% wool.
Spearment Leaves with Coffee. 2nd hand dyed skein. 4ply 100% wool. machine wash.

Seems I never really got into the Gilmore Girls way back when, think I was too busy with kids etc , I've noticed a trend with Knitters, mainly in the states they are Obsessed with Gilmore Girls...Well! I caved in got Netflix on and I must say I'm enjoying the re-runs...
Hope too see you on Ravelry or IG with your Cast Ons.
Thanks for stopping by.

Experimenting with Hand Dyed Yarn.

Today I decided too experiment with hand dying some yarn, I had 2 X 50gram 4ply machine wash in White in my stash, I thought it wouldn't matter if it didn't work out, I've been watching YouTube on the methods used, I decided too go with the stove top steam method with white vinegar and Food Colouring. I had limited colours in my pantry, Blue, Green, Pink and Black, I also used Coffee Essence on the second skein, I re wound the ball onto my swift winder into a skein. I diluted the colours in small cups of water and off I went.
The lighter one on the left was the first one, I love the pastel colours that's what I was hoping, the darker one I used the coffee essence and put more colour on to make it darker, I think these will go nice into a Shawl or Cowl. I've also had some finishes over the last month. My Boreal  Forest 2 colour Cowl by Renee of East London Knits, week 2 of the Knitvent by HelenStewart of Curioushandmde on Ravelry.
I really enjoyed knitting this design, I found the 7stitch count easy too remember, if you didn't participate in the Knitvent I think the pattern will be released on Ravelry after the new year.
Another present for the new Baby, still waiting on His Arrival.
Silver Birch Socks are off the needles, I used a Gradient Uarn by Gumblossoms Yarns in Brisbane, they are too take overseas.
Hope your knitting projects are coming along, our weather here is warming up so that the heavier yarns are getting a bit warm too knit on our laps, I've picked up my 4ply Cardigan that I started some months ago, another pattern that needs my full concentration.
I've joined the many knitters around the world and have been watching re runs of the Gilmore Girls!. I never really got into them all those years ago, needles too say I am now. lol.

It's Sock Week.

Silver Birch Socks using Gumblossoms Yarn.
I've been hearing people say on their Podcast and on Instagram that they just Love Knitting Socsks! Well I'm onto my 5th pair, not totally getting the Excitement of others, lol Until I started a pair for myself last week a new design and a first for Rebekah of @bex_inreallife on Instagram also  Now known as Creative Naturally Podcast on YouTube. I do like a challenge when it comes too knitting designs and up until now I think I've just been sticking too just basic sock patterns, but this new one called The Silver Birch Socks are just lovely, think I'm heading towards being hooked, that's what's been missing in my love for sock knitting is a good pretty pattern. I'm using hand dyed yarn from @gumblossoms yarns in Brisbane always try and support locals and Aussie made, I must admit it's not knitting up as soft as the other hand dyed yarns I've used so far it is 75% yarn and 25% nylon which I've discovered you need the nylon in your socks for wear and tear.   Now I've made the heels using Fish Lips heel my new favourite heel pattern, I've split my ball of yarn that I have left into two with my yarn wonder and now I can finish them knitting 2 at a time with Magic Loop. My Gorgepus Yarn Swap parcel arrived safely from New Zealand, I had the Lovely Libby from TrulyMyrtle who hosted the swap. I've heard Libby talk about Brushtail Possums and how they use their fur for yarn, I was given 3 Balls of a mix blend of NZ Merino, Brushtail Possum and Cotton, I've decided too use it with Libby's new hat pattern Alice, you can find Libby and her patterns on Ravelry  also on IG as @trulymyrtlephotos.

I also finished another pair of socks for the Xmas Box, one more pair on the needles they will be the last, I'm running out of time...
Emerald Green Men's Socks.
The pattern for the socks was Vanilla Latte Sock. Eye of Partridge Heel and Star Toe from the pattern, I really like this round toe better and will be using it a lot from now on. Free pattern on Ravelry. I've put in an order for New Sock Blockers in Large for Xmas.... Thanks for stopping by Happy Knitting Maree

Yarn Swap with TrulyMyrtle.

TrulyMyrtle Tarn Swap Package
I'll be back too show you what I was given from my partner. On the knitting I am nearly finished one of the socks that I started knitting two at a time, I made a Eye of the Partridge heel flap, my first time with that pattern, I liked it it gives the heel a little more strength, plus I'm knitting them on a 2.5mm needle which is giving the sock a much thicker feel which is what I was after.

Sock knitting gets better.

My second fingering weight yarn Socks on the needles, I started doing two at a time but my circulars are too short, so I seperated them, now up to the heel flap, I'm pretty pleased with this heel, the pattern is a Eye of the partridge, from the Vanilla Latte Sock pattern found on Ravelry, no gaps.
Vanilla Latte Socks in Green.
Knit Picks fingering, Rainforest Heather, a lovely emerald green with Brown tweed effect, this is lovely yarn too knit with, 2.5mm circular needles. For the Xmas Box Thanks for stopping by Happy Knitting Maree

Frogging happens.

Fairisle Jumper
Unfortunately this jumper isn't workingout as planned, the yarn is 100% Aussie wool but is a bit scratchy, the size is coming out too big even though I was wanting it too be a bit more loose, this was too be my Go Too Jumper for our UK trip in December, we will be staying in Edbinurgh for a week by the sea, I wanted a jumper too throw on, didn't matter if it got wet or sandy, probably making too much work for myself for a throw around. Think I'll look at the Boyfriend Jumper, and use up some yarn from Bendigo Woollen Mills in my stash, I was enjoying the Fairisle I'm sure I'll get too that in another project. Do you listen too audio podcast, one of my favourites is Libby from Truly Myrtle, I think it's her accent lol, Libby is running a Yarn Swap through her Ravelry group, I'm so pleased I actually got Libby in the swap, I had planned on making something extra too go into the swap so now I can make it more personal.... Two Colour Fairisle

Two Colour Boxy Jumper.
Fairisle Boxy Jumper.
Well I did Frog  that Grey jumper and now I've used it on another competely different style, I pulled out my  Old Jo Sharp Knitting Books and found a Largish Boxy type jumper, it has Fairisle all accross the top and on the sleeves, Nah not doing that! Famous last words she says, I've added my New Fav Colour again too the bottom  band, I'm following the basic pattern, I came up too the Fairisle and decided too have another go after Many Many Years...I've even taught myself too knit with the 2 colours one in the left hand and the other in the right, Love all these New techniques I'm finding....
Fairisle Yoke Boxy Jumper.
I'm using circular needles that's why its showing up with a curl, so far so good...I won't be doing the fairisle on the back or sleeves...too be Cont:

Podcasting and a New Cast On.

New Grey Jumper on my needles
Do you watch Video Podcast, I do and I love them, I do have my Favourites, they are mostly Knitting and Fibre related, you can follow them on YouTube. Here are Mother & Daughter Chelsea & Sue from LegacyKnitz also on Instagram. I've decided too give up on my Grey Jumper Roquaine from the latest Pom Pom Magazine, of all the years I've been knitting I don't remember having so much trouble with the pattern....so I frogged it and I'm following a bulky loose basic jumper pattern from an Older Jo Sharp pattern book, Knitting Bohemia, I'm adding my own pattern and the reason this will be my Mission is our London Kids want too spend a week in Edinburgh when we go over at Xmas, well it will be Chilly!! So a knitted jumper is in order and I do love this Grey....

Xmas Knitting for the UK.

My Son and his Wife have been living in London for nearly 4yrs now, we've  had 2 long trips so far and our next one will be from Boxing Day, Especially too see our second Grandchild and first GrandSon who will be due on the 16th December, having been in London previously for Xmas I Absolutely Love it...and we are so looking forward too seeing it again, ah yes it is a bit cold but we don't mind that, just hope we don't get as much rain as we did before...
I have started some Xmas Knitting for the Kids too take over...my Daughter in law Sam loves wearing hats in Winter over there so I have made her 2, one is yet too have a Faux Pom Pom attached...

I made 2 the from the same pattern but changed the design, one in Natural 8ply and Natural Merino 8ply from Cleckheaton...

and a pair of socks...DingoDyeworks Fingering weight ( 4ply ) in Canal Rocks and Blue Gum for the Toes, This is a Beautiful yarn too knit with it's my Favourite  atm...I used the Pebbles Sock pattern by Mina Phillips from the Knitting Expat on Ravelry and her Podcast.

Quill Shawl is off the needles.

I joined the "Shawl Society" by Helen Stewart of @curioushandmade on Instagram and Ravelry.
it's a 6 month membership with a new shawl pattern each month designed by Helen.
I've made no: 1 and now no: 4...
The Quill Shawl.
the yarn I used are Ghost and Slate 8ply Luxury by Bendigo Woollen Mills and
The Charisse is Sheen 8ply Empire by Morris & Sons, all the wool was lovely too knit with but I must say the Empire is a Dream, I used a 4.00mm KnitPro circular needle.

I'm really happy with the end result, I've washed and I stretched it a little when I blocked it as being in an 8ply it was feeling a little heavy and thickish compared too the fingering weight yarn that I've been using, it feels really lovely on, I have a cardigan too match the Charisse and will go well for my trip too the UK in December.

"Puerperium" cardigan by Pekapeka Designs Studio free pattern on Ravelry by Kelly Brooker.

This was a quick knit from the top down, first time I've knitted in this format and I loved it, I have used Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury 8ply in "Ghost".

"Kyoto" cross over cardigan by Lisa Chemery. on Ravelry.

This was a lovely pattern, the yarn was beautiful too knit with, Patons EXFM 8 ply Merino colour 2104, it's more of a Jade than blue showing up in this photo, it has a knitted cord attached too the inside and one too be attached too the front too tie with, I'll post more when then are completed.
